Interdisciplinarity

Brief introduction to Interdisciplinary

“The search for interdisciplinary practices has grown significantly over the years, as the need to respond to current complex problems demands new approaches that go beyond the production of partitioned knowledge. Working together in different areas, when properly executed, provides more effective and innovative results, transposing the knowledge achieved in individual research. Interdisciplinarity can be understood as an alternative, complementary and innovative tool to understand the contemporary problems that surround us. The advancement of science and technology in modern society is undeniably linked to the consolidation of new ways of thinking and generating knowledge within an interdisciplinary scope. In this context, the creation of research centers with interdisciplinary characteristics and objectives can be observed at the University of São Paulo, which seek to contribute to the emergence of a new disciplinary paradigm. The knowledge generated by an interdisciplinary research center enriches teaching and research activities. These centers need to make use of interdisciplinary processes and methodologies to add the knowledge of the various actors that compose them. However, it is worth noting that it is not enough to just follow some methodological guide to establish an interdisciplinary research group; there needs to be reforms of thinking in the face of current issues and the sincere commitment of all parties involved.” — extracted and translated from Portuguese from Ambrizzi et al.
